Delicious Italian Tomato Cheese Salad

Perfect to serve with an Italian pasta dinner.


  • 3 large tomatoes
  • 1 bell pepper
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 4 oz of cheese cubed
  • ¼ cup vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1 TBSP sugar
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 TBSP Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp dried basil


  1. Cut up tomatoes, pepper, celery and cheese into bit size pieces and place into bowl
  2. Also add to the bowl, vinegar, olive oil, sugar, garlic, Italian seasoning and basil
  3. Stir all ingredients until well mixed
  4. Chill, stir again prior to serving

Too many tomatoes and you don’t know what to do with them?  This is the perfect TOMATO CHEESE SALAD recipe that can be used to top a plain lettuce base or served on its own.  This is a recipe that can feature whatever type of fresh vegetables you have in your kitchen!

Tip & Tricks for perfecting Tomato Cheese Salad

This is an easy salad that you can substitute ingredients with whatever vegetables you have on hand.  Basically the key is using tomatoes for the primary vegetable.

Other good vegetables to use include onions, carrots, and any kind of pepper.

I prefer to use mozzarella cheese, but colby jack cheese and cheddar also work.

If you have fresh basil or cilantro, chop about 1 tablespoon and include it in the recipe, it makes it taste even fresher!

You can also substitute fresh garlic for the garlic powder.

Background of Tomato Cheese Salad

This recipe is a modification of what is traditionally know as an Italian tomato salad.  It is typically made when your fresh garden tomatoes and other vegetables are available in the summer.  It is easily modified with whatever vegetables you have on hand or pick up at your local market.

This is a perfect salad to take to an event or summer picnic.  It travels well and is happily received by your guests.  Every time I make this salad, most people take seconds!

If you have some hard salami, bacon or pepperoni consider adding it to this salad to make this salad more of a main meal.  It is an easy way to create a homemade antipasta salad!
